Chapter 83 – Lautaro Magic Academy (6)

7 minutes

“Didn’t I say it’s a nuisance to uselessly practice offensive magic here? Lynne, your magic needlessly takes up space.” -Medal

Since morning, Lynne had been continuously constructing magic when a man, accompanied by a group of women, approached her. Ur remembered him; he was the same man who had been manipulated… rather, who had been kindly brought to Shizuku’s room with a handbook on necromancy. His name was surely Medal, if Ur recalled correctly.

And, speaking of which.

“Really, why do you continue such a futile effort?” -Medal

Shizuku was there, snuggled up to Medal with an expression that was wickedly seductive. She was gently touching and stroking Medal’s chin with her fingertips. Her actions were completely those of a femme fatale, and she suited them unnecessarily well. This woman showed no signs of remorse.

While Ur grimaced, he turned her eyes towards Shizuku. The woman glanced at Ur for just a moment, winked, and then resumed her closeness to Medal. Apparently, the policy was to act as if unrelated.

Now, about Medal. He had been staring, not at Ur, but at Lynne, who was still focused and single-mindedly constructing magic. Lynne either hadn’t noticed Medal’s presence or was deliberately ignoring him, not stopping her magic construction at all.

Medal, either finding the situation amusing or just used to it, sneered at Lynne’s demeanor. Then, he declared to the female students he had brought along.

“I thought of coming here to train some new magic, and it looks like she wants to be my target, doesn’t it?” -Medal

He casually pointed his wand at her. The ease with which he aimed something that could be a deadly weapon at a person was either a sign of ignorance or desensitization to its meaning. Ur could not remain silent at such an act.

“Uh, excuse me, please wait a moment.” -Ur

“…Huh? What do you want?” -Medal

Surprised by Ur’s interruption, Medal let out a bewildered voice. It seemed Ur had been completely out of his consideration. Well, that didn’t matter. Ur positioned herself between him and Lynne.

“She’s trying to show me magic for my sake. I’m sorry, but could you please not interfere?” -Ur

“…You, are you an adventurer?” -Medal

While being rudely addressed and scrutinized, Ur was quite accustomed to this kind of disrespect.

For the【City Dwellers】 and【Priests】, theNameless】 were often seen as a wanderer or outsiders, and generally disliked. Since obtaining the “Adventurer’s Ring,” such gazes had become rare, but to Ur, it was something he was used to.

“I suppose I am an adventurer.” -Ur

“Ha, hahahaha!!! What a foolish and blind adventurer you are!!” -Medal

However, this was the first time Ur encountered someone who was so blatantly rude to a stranger. Rather than getting angry, Ur was surprised as he received the boy’s mockery.

“Let me tell you something. That woman’s magic is disastrous in dungeon exploration. It takes her one or two hours just to activate a single spell.” -Medal

“Hmm.” -Ur

“Moreover, she’s completely defenseless until it’s activated. The skill【Concentrate】 comes at the cost of not being able to communicate properly.” -Medal

“I see.” -Ur

“Besides, as the successor of the Leyline’s, she limits, restricts, and binds the magic she learns to enhance her skills. Do you understand? That’s all she can do!” -Medal

“Interesting.” -Ur

“The Leylines are ‘dropouts from the Lineage of White.’ Don’t waste your expectations. It’s futile.” -Medal

“Got it.” -Ur

Ur nodded. He nodded and did not move away from the boy’s presence. Medal, who was listing Lynne’s flaws and laughing gleefully, began to get annoyed as he noticed Ur wasn’t leaving.

“…Hey, what are you playing at?” -Medal

“Playing at? I’m not sure what you mean.” -Ur

Ur pondered for a while whether he should answer and then slowly expressed his thoughts.

“Thank you for the information. It’s a good reference for considering her magic. So, I’d like you to stop hindering her.”  -Ur

Ur understood the shortcomings and issues of her magic. He already knew some of them, but having accurate information was valuable (if the boy’s explanation was true).

However, being told about her magic’s flaws didn’t sway Ur’s opinion of “don’t interfere with her.” On the contrary, he needed to confirm how accurate the explanation was.

Moreover, Ur naturally disliked this person who was rude from the outset, mocking someone else’s efforts. It was doubtful if anyone could like him, and honestly, Ur saw no reason to let him do as he pleased.

“Despite the kind warning, are you stupid?” -Medal

“…Well, I’m not confident about being particularly smart.” -Ur

He’s an unpleasant opponent. However, as much as Ur would like to physically remove this person, it’s not feasible. It might be possible in theory, but considering his speech, behavior, and the entourage he’s surrounded by (including Shizuku), he’s probably a person of high rank.

He’s a student of Lautaro and seems to be an influential figure in the city. Honestly, causing trouble with him would be a hassle. The inconvenience outweighs the irritation. As if dealing with the ‘Poison Omen Bird’ that must be defeated wasn’t enough, causing further problems would be the height of folly.

“If you dislike that woman becoming a target so much, then you should take her place.” -Medal

Contrary to Ur’s anticipation, Medal grew increasingly annoyed and shifted his wand from Lynne towards him.

Annoying.

This man probably can’t handle things not going his way. He seems to have led a stress-free life. I’m jealous, Ur thought, but kept it to himself. Anything else he said would probably just further annoy him. At worst, he might have to endure one or two hits of the boy’s magic and wait for the storm to pass.

Ur fell silent, almost resigned. Anyway, he continued to wait silently for the storm to pass.

《Don’t bully Nii-tan!》-Akane

Ur never expected his sister to jump into the fray.

“Agh!” -Medal

“Medal-sama?!” -Student

“What is that, a familiar?” -Student

Akane, who should have been hidden in Ur’s pocket, leapt out and kicked Medal in the face, with the situation descending into chaos. Akane was violently angry. There was no way for Ur to appease Akane in her furious state. Thinking about it, it was impossible that Akane could have silently tolerated the situation of her own brother being arbitrarily insulted and attacked. It was a failure.

Ur was reflecting on this in a kind of escapism, but this was no time for escapism. Akane was flying around Medal, kicking, and tearing the clothes off the female students.

“Stop this nonsense, you damn familiar!” -Medal

《Nyah?!》-Akane

In that moment of thought paralysis, Medal grabbed Akane. Akane struggled violently.

Shit, I need to apologize or do whatever to make him let go of Akane.

But before Ur could speak, Medal pointed his wand, which he held in his other hand, at Akane.

“If you’re so eager to become experimental material, I’ll turn you into magical du—” -Medal

In the next moment, a series of events occurred.

First, much faster than Medal could cast magic on Akane, Ur rapidly shot the ball he was holding in his hand at Medal’s head. Perhaps as a result of his training, the ball flew in a straight line and buried itself into Medal’s face.

Medal, with blood spurting from his nose, was sent flying backward and let go of Akane. The surrounding female students screamed a moment later and hurriedly ran toward him.

Seizing the opportunity, Shizuku swiftly caught the thrown Akane and smoothly hid her inside her own uniform. Then, as if nothing had happened, she approached Medal with a concerned tone.

“Are you okay!? Medal-sama!!” -Shizuku

Realizing what he had done, Ur covered his face with his hands.
