Chapter 176 – Dragon-Devoured Uuga: A Peaceful Two Months (3)

10–15 minutes

One of Ur’s dreams was to fully enjoy a fluffy bed without worrying about his wallet.

For the Nameless Ur, there was no right of permanent residence in the city, and therefore, beds were a distant concept. Sleeping on the hard ground during outdoor camping, wrapping himself in a thin blanket to escape the chilled ground, or staying in a narrow, smelly, and cramped cheap inn bed was not misfortune, but everyday life.

After becoming an adventurer and having better finances, things greatly improved, but in the end, the basic premise of staying in rented lodging remained unchanged. When sleeping in a good bed, there was a corresponding cost, and although he could quickly fall asleep due to the comfort, it was undeniable that there was a lump-like feeling in his chest.

Therefore, one of Ur’s dreams that he wished to fulfill was to fall asleep in a comfortable bed as his own possession, without any lingering feelings. It was also a dream he had given up on as unattainable.

That dream unexpectedly came true.

“…I slept so damn good.” -Ur

Ur woke up in the morning after the sun had fully risen.

Usually, he would sleep deeply and briefly through 【Meditation】, wake up earlier than sunrise, and devote himself to training, so this was a terrible case of oversleeping in comparison. The comfort of the bed was the best. Originally, most of the Uuga residential quarters were a place where only the Caraleigh family and their chosen servants were allowed to live, so even the furnished furniture was all top-class. Ur had been experiencing the best sleeping comfort of his life since coming to Uuga.

Ur raised his body along with a refreshing awakening from his deep sleep. The morning sun was shining through the window outside. The chirping of small birds could be heard from somewhere. Ur laughed at how fearless they were to sneak into the bosom of Uuga, which could burn to death even giant monsters that could reach the clouds.

“…Mmm.” -Echelle

Echelle, who was sleeping in the same bed, looked a bit cold, so Ur put a blanket over her and quietly crawled out of the bed. He poured water from the pitcher on the desk and took it into his mouth. This pitcher also seemed to be an expensive item, and the poured water was surprisingly cool and pleasant.

He approached the window and gently opened it. The wind from outside felt nice. This fortified city, born alongside a fearsome conspiracy, was nevertheless beautiful to a degree that belied its history.

A pleasant awakening protected by the finest bed.

A graceful cityscape illuminated by the beautiful morning sun.

There was even a close female companion in the bed.

It was a perfect morning that would invite thrown stones if one were to nitpick.

Ur was convinced of that. He understood that one of his dreams was now being fulfilled. On top of that,

“…This is too much.” -Ur

Amidst the fulfilling happiness, Ur let out one bitter impression.

              ◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆

Inside Uuga, the place Ur tentatively designated as his own residence was a three-story detached house located on the west side of Uuga.

A detached house, in itself, was quite a luxurious matter. In the current era where land was limited, having one’s own residence was a privilege of the priests. Even for city residents, it was common for multiple families to live together in so-called high-rise buildings. For a Nameless person to live there was a dream within a dream.

Ur descended the stairs of that dream residence step by step and entered the living room.

For some reason, a pleasant smell was already wafting through the air. When he peeked in, a familiar, peerlessly beautiful girl was cheerfully cooking.

“Oh, Ur-sama, good morning.” -Shizuku

“Morning… Echelle is one thing, but you also seemed to have made yourself awfully comfortable in someone else’s place, huh?” -Ur

“Oh my, was that not allowed?” -Shizuku

“The food smells good, so it’s fine.” -Ur

His appetite won over comparing it to common sense. In the first place, it wasn’t just today that she had started using Ur’s house as if it were her own. The personal belongings of people other than Ur were increasing day by day in the first-floor living room.

Although, the owners of those personal belongings were not limited to Shizuku.

“Good morning, Ur.” -Lynne

“You’re here too, Lynne? Morning.” -Ur

The hobbit Lynne, who was sleepily preparing and waiting for Shizuku’s breakfast at the table, greeted him. In terms of personal belongings, hers were the most numerous. Even though she was supposed to have her own residence inside Uuga, for some reason, she liked to conduct her research on the White King Formula in Ur’s house.

“This place is starting to look like a meeting hall.” -Ur

“It’s being treated almost like a guild house.” -Lynne

The members of the【Walkers】 had gathered. This was also not a particularly unusual sight.

As Lynne said, the first floor of Ur’s house had almost become a conference room where the members of the【Walkers】 gather. Initially, among the many available housing facilities in Uuga, Ur had chosen a place with a large living room, thinking there would be many opportunities for discussions. Whether his prediction was correct or that choice was the cause, the members had started gathering at Ur’s house for both public and private matters.

It wasn’t that he had that much of a problem with it. However,

“…If possible, I’d like to have my own private space too.” -Ur

Wanting something else as soon as one obtains their dream home might be called human nature.

“Like a secret base?” -Lynne

“That has a nice ring to it.” -Ur

“Or a vacation home.” -Lynne

“The legendary thing only allowed for high-ranking priests…?” -Ur

“Can’t you pick as many as you want now?” -Lynne

“It’s not a good idea to recklessly take on more and more while the management of Uuga is still undecided.” -Ur

“But it’s a valid strategy to secure as much as possible while there are no obstructions.” -Lynne

As they talked, plates were quickly arranged and soup was poured at the center of the large table. Seeing the person doing that, Ur smiled with a half-exasperated look.

“Even you’re here, Jain?” -Ur

Jain, of the 【White Serpent】, a man large both vertically and horizontally, was for some reason helping Shizuku with the cooking while wearing an apron that didn’t suit him. In response to Ur’s comment, Jain snorted in a bored manner.

“Shizuku invited me. Said there’s gonna be a discussion about Uuga. What a pain.” -Jain

“Is it just my imagination that you’re cheerfully cooking in an apron despite that?” -Ur

When Ur pointed that out, Jain fell silent for a bit. Then, with a sullen expression, he nodded.

“Gardening is fun.” -Jain

“I didn’t ask, but…” -Ur

“The happiness when the crops you grew and cooked yourself turn out to be good is crazy.” -Jain

“Get a grip, silver-ranked adventurer.” -Ur

Jain’s dream and goal, which no one doubted, was to acquire his own land and home where he could settle down. Although the future prospects of Uuga were unclear, he seemed to be more moved than Ur about fulfilling that dream within Uuga.

As a result, he had loosened up a bit. Until recently, he was obsessed with procuring his favorite furniture, but now it seemed his favorite was the vegetable garden in the yard. There were often scenes of him playing with the soil together with Rabin in the neighboring house.

It was more like the retirement of a priest with too much free time and land on his hands than a silver-rank adventurer.

“You should do it too, Ur.” -Jain

“Right now, I have too much irregular time away from home to have that kind of leisure.” -Ur

“I’ll take care of it while you’re away.” -Jain

“You’re too enthusiastic about getting others into your hobby.” -Ur

While they were talking, dishes filled with food were steadily lined up on the floating plates through levitation magic. Among them were magic stones that had been simply and attractively carved, but those were probably Rock’s breakfast. He would surely just toss them into his mouth anyway, so it was quite diligent of them.

“I have also contacted Rock-sama, so he will be here shortly. What about Echelle-sama?” -Shizuku

“She’s still sleeping upstairs.” -Ur

“I’ll go wake her up then.” -Shizuku

“Ah… please do.” -Ur

Watching Shizuku smoothly go upstairs, Ur exhaled and rested his forehead on the table.

It was noisy. But it was also a pleasantly homely breakfast table.

This was also one of Ur’s dreams, as he had never had his own house before.

“…This is too much.” -Ur

Ur repeated the murmur so softly that no one could hear it.

              ◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆

After finishing a breakfast that was a bit too lively to be called peaceful, Ur and the others were brewing tea and taking a break. It was peace itself, but it had been a while since they could relax this much. However, a new job would come again soon. Moreover, the next job coming was a big one.

“…The next meeting with Gradol is in three days, right?” -Ur

“Yes, it will be held at this location, and they say they will come from Gradol in the mobile fortress 【Albion Steed】. This time, the new Shinra will be coming along too.” -Shizuku

The discussion with Gradol was approaching once again. Moreover, this time, a new Shinra from Gradol would be coming for an inspection. Until now, there had been instances of magicians and lower-ranking priests coming to investigate Uuga, but this was the first time a Shinra themself was directly coming.

In that case, it was certain that they would be busy with preparations to welcome them. Perhaps understanding that, Echelle stuck her face flat on the table.

“…I don’t want to.” -Echelle

“If you keep your face glued to the table, it’ll leave a mark, Echelle.” -Lynne

“…Okay.” -Echelle

Lynne scolded her for that. Echelle silently raised her face.

Surprisingly, or rather, Lynne and Echelle had become close over the past two months. Their ages, races, and everything else were different, and although Echelle should have been higher in age, height, and rank, their interactions made Lynne seem more like the older sister.

In any case, it was a good trend for Echelle to have more people to rely on besides Kalkara and Ur.

“Well, anyway, it’s in three days. There isn’t much time, but there’s no point in getting flustered now. We’ll proceed with the preparations little by little—” -Ur

“Special delivery!” -Rabin

At that point, Rabin of the 【White Serpent】 burst in.

“What’s with you all of a sudden, idiot?” -Jain

“Oh, if it isn’t Rimomo? Looks yummy.” -Rabin

Jain, who was sharing the dining table, let out a voice that sounded like he was holding back a headache. As soon as Rabin invaded the house, she started vigorously picking at the fruits placed on the table.

“What are you, an apparition?” Jain hit her on the head and stopped her.

“Stop making a fool of yourself, dumbass.” -Jain

“Can’t be helped, it was an express delivery.” -Rabin

Rabin showed no sign of remorse and placed two letters on the table. Ur tilted his head.

“Letters… no, how were these delivered?” -Ur

“There were two big birds flying around the entrance of the command tower, so I was thinking of strangling them and having them for breakfast, but then I found letters attached to them.” -Rabin

It seemed that after removing the letters, they promptly left Uuga as if their business was done. From the way they fearlessly completed their job despite Uuga’s intimidating presence as a mobile fortress to the surrounding monsters, there was no doubt they were excellent familiars. From the feel of the two letters handed over, it was clear they were made of high-quality paper.

The question was, where were the letters from—

“Two letters… from where and where?” -Ur

“…One is from one of the 【Seven Heavens】, 【Heavenly Demon】.” -Rabin

“So not from Diz-sama?” -Shizuku

The magician of the Seven Heavens, commonly known as 【Greylei the Heavenly Demon】. The man also called the Wise Heavenly King’s Staff.

He was a man renowned as the greatest magician in the world. During his travels to various places, Ur had witnessed Greylei’s magic once. Although, when he first saw it, he didn’t even think it was magic.

In the City of Sin, Envy, there must have been some kind of accident. When a giant magical machine went out of control and flew into the middle of the city, he activated his magic. However, he didn’t chant. He didn’t draw a magic circle. Just by standing there, countless flashes of light burst forth, and the machine was instantly shattered into pieces.

Ur didn’t know what that was at the time, and he still doesn’t know now. No matter how you thought about it, it deviated from the normal rules of magic. In short, he was a monster.

“He’s also famous for being a super genius who created a flying mobile fortress. So, what about the other letter?” -Jain

When asked by Jain, Ur didn’t answer for a while. He stared at the sender’s name written on the letter, furrowing his brow. As everyone fell into a puzzled silence at his silence, Ur slowly announced the name.

“…It’s a letter from the 【Ruptured Realm of Sloth】, 【Black】.” -Ur

“—What?!” -Jain

Jain impulsively snatched the letter from Ur’s hand and confirmed the sender. Ur’s words were true. That name was indeed engraved there.

However, even so, in front of a name that was still hard to believe, Jain shouted.

“This monster was still alive?!” -Jain

Letters from a monster and a monster.

Everyone present there reluctantly understood that it was a harbinger of new troubles.

Drillrealm of sloth? I don’t remember if this character was introduced before or not

Ah, apologies for the confusion. Drillrealm of Sloth is the name of the location. The raw has the name as 「穿孔王国スロウス」, which literally means Drill(-ing) Kingdom Sloth, so I translated it as “Drillrealm of Sloth” since it sounded a bit better imo.
In this dialogue, Ur is stating that it came from the Drillrealm of Sloth, but more specifically, it came from Black.
